Terms of service

By downloading, installing, or using Markdown Library ML-42 ("ML-42" or "the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

ML-42 is a native macOS reader and editor for markdown files in folders you choose. The App provides:

• A view mode that shows documents rendered, and an edit mode that shows the raw markdown with line numbers
• Projects made from folders on your filesystem, with no import
• Folder overviews with document cards
• A command palette that searches across all your projects
• Syntax highlighting for fenced code blocks in more than 15 languages, tables, images, and front matter
• Reloading of open documents when another app or an AI agent changes the file
• Optional one-sentence document summaries, made on your Mac with Apple Intelligence
• A table of contents, favorites, navigation history, and light and dark appearance with reading settings

Features may change between versions.

The App requires:

• macOS: macOS 26 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel

Document summaries require Apple Intelligence, which needs a Mac with Apple silicon. Everything else works without it.

You retain full ownership of all files you open, create, or edit with the App. We claim no rights to your content.

• Your files remain on your local filesystem at all times
• ML-42 does not copy, import, upload, or sync your files to any other location
• We do not have access to your files and cannot recover them
• You are responsible for backing up your data
• Deleting files or folders through the App moves them to the Trash

ML-42 is a sandboxed application. It only accesses folders you explicitly grant permission to through the system file picker. The App may:

• Read files to display their content
• Write to files when you edit them
• Create new files and folders at your request
• Rename and delete files and folders at your request

ML-42 does not access files or folders outside the projects you have opened. The macOS sandbox enforces this.

ML-42 goes online for two things only. When a document you view contains an image with a web address, the App downloads that image from its server to show it. When you send the feedback form, the App sends your message to us. There is no telemetry, analytics, or cloud sync. See the Privacy Policy for what each request contains.

The App, including its design, code, and branding, is the intellectual property of Field Bureau & Werkstatt LLC. You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works based on the App without explicit written permission.

The documents you create and edit with the App belong entirely to you.

The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from the use of the App, including but not limited to:

• Loss or corruption of files or data
• Unintended file modifications or deletions
• Inaccurate rendering of markdown content
• Incompatibility with specific markdown flavors or extensions
• Content of images loaded from third-party servers

The App is sold through the Mac App Store. Purchases, refunds, and your license to use the App are also subject to Apple's terms for the App Store.

We may update the App and these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after updates constitutes acceptance of any changes. Updates are distributed through the Mac App Store.

You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. Uninstalling does not touch your files. The App's preferences and project bookmarks are kept in its container in your user Library.
